SUPER LEEDS COLLECTION - football history, memorabilia, match worn shirts & medals. Revie’s Aces.Cup Heroes.Bionic Leeds.
Leeds United Memorabilia is a captivating photographic history of artefacts and paraphernalia connected with the famous club and its 100-plus-year history.
Leeds United did not create football collectibles and souvenirs but they were one of the main drivers of the industry, especially in the 1960s and 70s when Don Revie rejuvenated the club and put them on the map of world club football.
Together with well-known collector and historian Neil Barker, author Robert Endeacott brings the artefacts to life with fascinating information and entertaining anecdotes.
Filled with eye-catching photos of rare collectibles, the book features contributions and interviews from major collectors like Chris Miller, David Kirkby, Ben Hunt, Pete Hopton, Mark Whelan and David Gaertner. There’s also a foreword by renowned sports artist and raconteur Paul ‘The Beaver’ Trevillion, who is an integral part of the history of Leeds United memorabilia.
Leeds fans of all ages will love this book!
Super Leeds is synonymous with the great Leeds United Team promoted to division one in 1965 and who dominated both the domestic and continental football for 10 years, culminating in the infamous loss to Bayern Munich in the European cup final in Paris in 1975.
Super Leeds represented all that was great about this footballing era when football was a working man's game. The Super Leeds team were all international players and Don Revie created a family culture within the club that fostered a unique bond between the players and staff.
During this period, Super Leeds were in the running for domestic and European trophies typically ending the season winners or runners-up. Many argue, including the players, that the club underachieved - often falling at the final hurdle due the intense fixture backlogs that were a dominant feature of that time. In spite of this, Leeds will be mostly remembered for winning 2 league championships and as winners of the 1972 Centenary Cup final with Alan Clarke scoring the only goal in a close encounter with Arsenal.
Towards the latter part of the decade Leeds became synonymous with innovation, partnering with Admiral to transform kits and tracksuits and partnering with Paul Trevellion to bring artistry to the game through the pre-game warm ups and waves with payers kicking balls into the crowd and introducing the famous player sock tags.
On a personal note, I started going to Elland Road in 1973. I have some rich memories waving my father off to Wembley in 1973, going to Paris in 1975 and some of those huge European nights under the floodlights of Elland road, as we sat in the West Stand.
I started collecting Super Leeds memorabilia when I was five and haven’t looked back, always going into the Souvenir shop on match days or swapping programmes with friends at school. I’m proud to share with you my collection of player shirts, medals, banquet menus, sock tags and memorabilia from back in the day when football was football and when Super Leeds was the team to beat. Marching on Together. Glory Glory Leeds United.
